Ruth Fremson, a photojournalist with The New York Times was interested in telling America the story of people in need who live in rural communities. The journalist thought the idea of focusing on a mobile food bank was an interesting angle – something probably unknown to the average NYT reader. So we arranged for her to visit Nourish’s distribution sites in Roy and on the Key Peninsula.
The result is an incredible photo essay in the Times’ online platform, “‘An Overwhelming Tsunami’ for Food Banks Going Mobile” by Ruth Fremson and Mike Baker, published on May 19, 2020. . Additionally, her images of one of the Nourish mobile food banks and some of our clients were featured on the front page of the print edition on May 20, 2020.
While it is a sad reality that there is such a need for food banks throughout Pierce County, Washington State and the country, now more than ever, we are always incredibly appreciative to have the opportunity to inform others about that need. Sharing this information helps lead to generous donors, which enables us to continue serving anyone who needs us throughout Pierce County. We are both thrilled and grateful to have had such a remarkable opportunity.
