Be part of the solution – help feed your neighbors in need
We always need more help! It’s only because of caring and generous people like you that we’re able to serve nutritious food to well over half a million people each year in Pierce County. Volunteers are needed every day except Sunday.
The first step to becoming a Nourish Pierce County volunteer is to create a volunteer account on Volunteer Up and register for an upcoming orientation. Orientations are held three times a month. Please select an orientation date and time that works for you!
Orientation will last about 45 minutes – we will look at what Nourish Pierce County does for the community, our mission, and how our volunteers help feed neighbors in need. At the orientation we will schedule your first volunteer shift and fill out an application. This application includes a background check.

On food distribution days – volunteers may greet and check in clients, accompany clients through the food bank as they shop, restock shelves, help clients load groceries and return shopping carts to the food bank.
On preparation days – volunteers may sort food products, repackage bulk foods into smaller portions for distribution, restock shelves and break down boxes. Some volunteers assist with picking up food from local grocery stores and other locations, or receiving food deliveries and unloading delivery trucks.
Youth volunteers give so much to our organization. At all Nourish locations, volunteers must be 16 or older to volunteer on their own. Children under the age of 16 can volunteer too, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entirety of the volunteer shift.
